I am a licensed psychologist and psychoanalyst and have been in private practice for 34 years. I work with adults and couples in both brief and longer-term psychotherapy. In addition to providing psychotherapy, I also provide consultation to other mental health professionals. I have a strong interest in psychoanalytic writing.
I completed my Ph.D. at Penn State University, along with a pre-doctoral internship at the University of Oregon Counseling Center and a post-doctoral residency at the former Dammasch State Hospital.
I completed a 4 year certification program in psychoanalysis at the Northwest Center for Psychoanalysis, Portland in 2006.

I encourage clients to notice particular thoughts, feelings, images, or even bodily sensations that occur in their daily lives, as well as images and feelings that appear in dreams.
I encounter connections to past experiences in one’s family of origin, but I prefer to begin with present-day experience and work from there. The idea is that unresolved issues from the past live on inside of us, making them part of our present experience.
It is most important for us to identify each person’s issues and goals as clearly as possible and proceed from there. I also adjust my approach to each person’s needs. For example, some people appreciate more space to verbalize their thoughts, while others may prefer a little more structure. I am always committed to listening carefully and actively participating in the therapy process. I will readily share my thoughts and ideas and I also strongly encourage people to let me know if they are needing something different from therapy.
