Couples Therapy

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy offers a supportive space for partners to better understand their relationship and work through challenges together. Dr. Steinberg works with couples who are interested in moving beyond surface-level disagreements to explore the deeper dynamics shaping their connection.

Many couples find themselves caught in repeating patterns—miscommunication, emotional distance, or unresolved conflict—without fully understanding what is driving them. Over time, these patterns can create frustration, disconnection, and a sense of being stuck.

While quick fixes or temporary compromises may bring short-term relief, they often do not lead to lasting change. Couples therapy provides an opportunity to slow things down, reflect more deeply, and begin to understand what is happening beneath the surface.

Understanding Relationship Patterns

Each partner brings their own history, emotional experiences, and expectations into the relationship. These individual patterns interact in complex ways, sometimes creating misunderstanding or conflict.

At times, communication can become difficult, especially when emotions feel overwhelming or hard to express. Couples may begin to avoid certain conversations, particularly around sensitive or recurring issues. This can lead to increased tension, frustration, and a sense of not being heard or understood.

Therapy helps bring these patterns into awareness. By exploring how each partner experiences the relationship, it becomes possible to better understand the dynamics at play and begin to shift them in a more constructive direction.

My Approach

Dr. Steinberg , I work with individuals, couples, and organizations who are ready to look beyond surface-level challenges and explore the deeper patterns shaping their lives. Often, people find themselves repeating the same struggles—whether in relationships, work, or personal growth—without fully understanding why.

Rebuilding Trust and Connection

Trust is a fundamental part of any relationship, yet it can be affected by misunderstandings, emotional distance, or past hurt. When trust is disrupted, it often brings feelings of uncertainty, insecurity, and disconnection.

Couples therapy creates a safe and supportive environment where both partners can express themselves openly without fear of judgment. Rather than focusing on blame, the work centers on understanding what has happened and how it has impacted each person emotionally.

Rebuilding trust is a gradual and intentional process. It involves honest communication, accountability, and a willingness to be vulnerable. With time and consistency, couples can begin to restore emotional safety and strengthen their bond.

The Couples Therapy Process

In sessions, both partners are given space to speak and be heard. Therapy helps slow down interactions so that communication becomes more thoughtful and less reactive. This allows each person to feel understood while also developing a greater capacity to listen.

Difficult topics can be explored with the support of a neutral and experienced therapist. This often makes it easier to express concerns, clarify misunderstandings, and work through conflict in a more productive way.

Couples may also be encouraged to reflect on their interactions outside of sessions and bring those observations into therapy. This ongoing process helps build awareness and supports continued growth between sessions.

Growth, Clarity, and Moving Forward

Couples therapy is not only about resolving conflict—it is also about deepening understanding, strengthening connection, and supporting each partner’s individual growth within the relationship.

It can be especially helpful during times of transition, such as becoming parents, career changes, illness, or shifts in life direction. Therapy provides a space to navigate these changes together with greater clarity and support.

Over time, couples often experience improved communication, increased emotional intimacy, and a stronger sense of partnership. The goal is to create a relationship that feels more connected, resilient, and aligned with both partners’ needs and values.

Fees, Insurance, and Scheduling

The fee for psychotherapy is $200 for a 45-minute session. For billing insurance plans for which I am in network, the fee will be the contracted rate for your specific plan. I am happy to bill insurance directly, and I can also provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

The best way to schedule an appointment is to either call or email. If you choose to send a message through this site and I do not get back to you right away, please reach out through phone or email, as messages sometimes do not get through.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have in a phone call prior to an appointment being made.
